KGB Report to Central Committee of the
Soviet Union Communist Party
Central Committee Decree No CT-10/53 of 19 July 1971 rules that
the State Security Committee (KGB) shall illegally and in conspiracy
transmit to the Cypriot comrades firearms and ammunition consignment.
We were ready to carry out this operation at any time. But the operation
was postponed upon request from the Chief Secretary of the AKEL*,
comrade Papanoyanou.
In connection with the sharply aggravated political situation in
Cyprus, in June 1974 Papanoyanou filed a request for timely provision
of firearms for the purposes of personal safety and for protection
of AKEL leadership and other progressive state and political functionaries
from terror and provocative action on the side of the reactionary
organization EOKA-B**.
Following Comrade Papanoyanou's request, on 13 June 1974 KGB illegally
consigned weapon amounting to one hundred pistols Walther and 25
000 cartridges. On 4 July the same year those firearms were conspiratively
handed to the comrades.
